"Deficit had shrunk from $413 billion two years ago to $248 billion. The federal government collected $2.407 trillion in taxes in FY2006, $122 billion more than originally forecast back in February. "

Notice to libs: Tax revenues increased because of strong economic activity, not an increase in tax rates (as liberal pundits claimed was necessary

Now you're confusing them with facts. Was that nice? This could set them back weeks in their socialist brainwashing sessions.

Anyone can pump an EXTRA $250 billion into our economy (borrowed money) to bring unemployment down, bring GDP up, and make our economy appear artificially strong.

But all they're really doing is piling on the debt for the next administration, and generations to come. Sure.... the Democrats will be the bad guys having to reign in the Republican's overspending and tow the line on fiscal conservatism. Just like Clinton did, after 12 years of Reagan & Bush Sr., overspending to fuel the military-industrial complex. They'll have to raise taxes to bring the budget & deficit under control.

Oh gee, lets go slow so you understand what you have just typed. Deficit has shrunk, but it is still 248 billion, just because it has shrunk does not mean that you are not going in the hole. Duh, we are 248 BILLION more in debt. If I forecast that I am going to get $10 from you and you give me $15 does that mean that you are doing better or did I underestimate what you were able to give me to make it look better. These figures are ambiguous and do not mean much. I didn't have to listen to Rush Limbaugh to figure it out either.

So you are saying that the STATE TAX INCREASES
in response to money they were no longer getting from the FED makes it all right
Republicans didn't cut anything, they just moved the taxes around to hide them
The real difference was in who was paying them_ ask any small business Man if he pays more or less after 6 years of Bush!!

... well you do know you have a war going on that pumps billions into the economy... or does that not help any?

and I think tax cuts do help... but I also think that small business tax cuts help... but the huge business tax cuts don't do as much... yet that is a lot of the cuts that were made...

oh and that's a nice fair un-bias cite you got there... should I run and get something from a bias liberal site that would be just as pointless?

Tax revenues also increased under J. F. Kennedy and Reagan, after lower tax rates.
The effects were also felt in state sales tax revenues, as well as state income taxes where applicable.

Tax Cuts prove that the working people of this country can put the extra money to better use than the government can.
People buy stuff with their extra money and that creates jobs.
Democrats believe that the government can put the money to better use than the peasants who work and earn it.

the revenue collected was also the largest ever collected in US history. raising taxes seems logical to a person who doesnt know much about economics. it also seems logical to someone who fails to realize that we have a deficit because of a war, and NOT because of lower taxes.

There is still deficit spending...which 6 years ago...did not exist and was schedule to not exist for another 8 years.

Saying I only went further into debt half as much this year then I expected it a miniumal victory.

If Bush didn't borrow billions of dollars from foreign counties to fund the tax cuts, there would be little or no deficit. Could you imagine the trouble you'd be in if your personal finances were mismanaged like that?

Even the DNC God JFK knew you had to cut taxes to gain revenue. Todays Democrats have forgotten those lessons.
