Why is Chicago known as the mid west?

Isn't Chicago a little more.. mid east?

Isn't Chicago more mid east than mid west.. in relation to the rest of America? What is the international date line?

The Midwest is the states of Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. Sometimes North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Kentucky, and West Virginia is considered part of the Midwest as well.

Geographically speaking, they were the "Middle West" in the early days of the United States, before the United States terrority expanded westward.
