Working hours
People are generally to shy/scared/withdrawn to draw attention to a problem in an attempt to bring it to a stop, so instead they take time off 'sick' or resign in hope of finding a supporting work place.

Low pay. If an employee is only losing $5.00 per hour then what is the point.

They're lazy. Unless they call in and say that their kid is sick or something legit, I call them lazy. We had a guy work for us here that just quit coming, not call or anything, I call that lazy and chicken ****.

stress...
i think it depends on the group though...
younger kids probably call off more frequently due to 'partying' type illnesses...(hangovers, lack of sleep)
single moms have to call off when their child is sick...
family deaths...
laziness...
job satisfaction is low...
