Aside from getting a faster one- make sure you're not running out of hard disk space (that will slow your system to a crawl), run complete virus and spyware scans, and maybe upgrade the RAM.
Check how much RAM you've got in Control panel/System. If its a low amount like 256mb (or god forbid 128mb) then add memory.

when you say takes ages to open up, are you referring to opening the website or opening any windows for any application in your computer?
if it takes a long time for you to open up a website, it could be that your internet connection is very slow or there is traffic in the network. or you can also delete cache and cookies from your browser to open up a website faster..
but, if it takes time for your computer to open up a window for a certain application, you might need to check on the system resources of your computer. deleting unused applications or programs can help your computer process faster.
you might want to run antivirus and anti spy to make sure that there is no threat to your system that is causing the delay.
hope this helps.
good luck!! (",)

First thing, check for spyware. Spyware will slow down your PC.
Here is a list of free scans.I would recommend running ewido first.
