Ok, so I wrote a question earlier. I lost my mucous plug, and did some light housework. I am starting to feel contractions and my lower back along with the vaginal area really HURTS.So I called my dr.'s office-I will be 37 weeks tomorrow. I went to the hospital with my 1st daughter and had to have potosin to make my cervix dilate. They said that they will not give potosin at 37 weeks at the hospital. I thought this was bs. Does anyone out there have any suggestions on what to do after you lose your mucous plug, and to help make your cervix to start dilating? I'm already at 3cm, and 70% effaced. Thanks.

Start walking and keep walking. Sounds like you're almost there!

I don't think there's really anything out there that truly helps you dialate, but walking a LOT could help you. And, you need the added exercise before you're bogged down with 2 kids, possibly nursing, etc. Maybe the next time you go to your Dr., you could ask him to strip your membranes. That helps a lot of women start labor within a couple of days. Good luck getting through these last few weeks. I remember how agonizing they were! Feels like you've been pregnant for years. Just relax! P.S. Try to have this baby without Pitocin. It makes your contractions less aggressive.

Well honestly the only real thing to do is wait. I know that sounds awful but most of the home remedies to make you go into labor won't work. You can try having sex (as awkward as it may be) but semen contains hormones that can make the cervix dilate even more. But even then it might not work.

The baby will come when he or she is ready. You can lose your mucous plug several weeks before real labor begins. Most doctors will not use Pitocin until at least the 39th week of pregnancy to induce labor.

I am not going to tell you anything you haven't already heard-Walk-ALOT!!! But, I have a slight issue with the saying they don't administer potosin at 37 wks...I was 37 1/2 wks when I had my first child-and I know I received potosin. I am not quite sure what their reasoning would be on that unless things have changed that much in the last few years! Either way it sounds like you are almost there. Congrats and good luck!

there really is nothing you can do. people will tell you to climb stairs, walk, have sex, eat this or that... you can knock yourself out doing all of these and good luck. if it works it is a coincidence. out of all the options, i would try having sex for best possible chances. you are already 3 cm so it shouldnt be long now anyway. if you are 3 cm and contracting regularly with painful contractions-most doctors would be comfortable giving you pitocin to help you along. if you are not contracting very often, then yes they may send you home to wait it out a little longer

Some say that the more you move around, the faster your labor will come. Walking the stairs or a walk around the neighborhood might do the trick. But from the sounds of things, you don't have too long to go.

Nipple stimulation or an orgasm will release oxytosin into your system which can help start labor up.

Good luck!!!!

it's not healthy for you child to be born before 38 weeks. be patient. dialating will not make your water break.
