I don't know that we can or that we should. I think this is an middle-class American fallacy. We live in a real life world not a made up of fantasy and sugar plums. Never before in history have children been given so much time to grow up as they do in American middle-class, except perhaps in the super wealthy leaders of kingdoms past. We can steer them one way or another and hone their ability to make good choices but children are not dumb nor can they be locked away in a corrupt proof fantasy life. My grandson is only 2 but he knows bad people do bad things to each other as well as other people try to do good by arresting the evil doers or putting out the fires or operating on someone who has been injured. At home we call it doing God's work. The best way to raise our children is to answer their questions truthfully when they ask and give them lots of personal attention. Allow them to learn and play with mentally healthy choices such as sandboxes, water sports and toys, animals, colors, music, dancing, laughter and games which cause them to use their imaginations and motor skills. We can harm our children with gore and hate and neglect or we can teach them right from wrong.

The only true innocence is faith and the belief they can make a difference.

depends on what you mean by innocent...all children are innocent cuz they haven't committed any crimes! lol

If you want your kids to gro up innocent, then i suggest you get rid of computer games and television from their room...kids are nowadays lazy and losing their imagination cuz they are consumed by videogames and crap on TV...

Let them go out there (not by themselves, cuz of all the paedos) and have fun in park, in street, wherever...If you are too concern about your child getting hurt (physically) then you just gonna take away the confidence they suppose to have to go and explore things. If they don't explore things they they ill grown up depressed and lack of imagincation...
