God thought of everything. We automatically close our eyes when we sleep because if they stayed open, they would dry out. That's also why we blink our eyes to keep them moist.

I'm going to be real annoying and throw this thought out to you.

If you've ever research or stuydied Quantum(s/p?) Physics, you would realize that each and every individual creates their own reality, so maybe in actuality it is your brain that triggers and chemical reaction and causes your eye lids to close.

My guess would be because when we sleep, we don't want to let light in...it keeps us awake. Closing our eyes allows us to close off light and thus allow us to sleep uninterrupted.

Because when we're tired the muscles that control our eyelids need to relax just as much as all the other muscles in our body do for us to be able to relax enough to sleep.

not everyone does. my grandma doesn't, so its actually pretty freaky when she's sleeping. i'm no scientist, but i think it's basically just to rest out eyes after leaving them open all day.

I guess so that they don't see light that can bother them. (Try asking a fish how he can keep his eyes open, or a dolphin how he sleeps!)

We don't. It's just a Jedi Government mind trick that makes you think they are closed
