the author become bossy. Or the candlestick become in Jack's way. Or it become some style of sick trick to play on Jack after the farmer on a del caught Jack in mattress together with his daughter. So, the farmer lit the candlestick and placed it in Jack's direction, hoping Jack become no longer nimble or rapid and could capture his crotch on fireplace. Hmmm?

Because a child being burnt alive is not the best basis for a children's poem. Jack jumped because he wanted to tempt fate.
