first of all i would prefer that u tell ur frnd to go to that guy and tell the truth...if this doesnt work out then the only way is that u can just go straight upto that guy ..nd tell him the truth..but i would suggest u that dont just say that u dont like him..coz he will be having so many feelings for u upto now..wen he discovered that u like him..make him ur frnd..just tell him that there is no attraction but if he want to be a gud frnd than most welcome...and if he denies then ur answer is clear ..screw him up and move on...his mouth will certainly shut up

Calm down,
then the next time you see him, ask to speak to him privately.
Tell him what has happened, and that you are sorry, but you are not interested in him.
He may be upset or embarrassed at first, but you could always be a friend to him anyway, and he will have to respect your honesty. Just don't insult him in any way.
Don't confront him when there are other people around. It is a very private conversation. It already got out of hand because someone else was talking to him.

just tell him that your friend was being a real smart-*** one day and she decided to pick on you by telling this guy that you liked him, just say that you said he's a nice guy but I'm not interested in a boyfriend girlfriend thing now and you are sorry for your friends ignorance. Then tell you friend if she ever does that to embarrass you again you will do something really embarrassing to her and that she should go up to this guy and apologize too.
