Unspayed cats are at risk for a disease called pyometra, a uterine infection that is life threatening. I've found you a site all about it, but it's awful to look at, and young kids probably shouldn't see it: http://vetsurgerycentral.com/pyometra.htm
Unless you're going to breed them professionally it's best to spay and neuter both dogs and cats to keep the population under control. A pet that isn't spayed or neutered is desperate to breed, and there are too many unwanted pets that need homes already. It's really good for cats too.

It is highly recommended. Not only does it cut back on unwanted breeding and the high population of unwanted pets but it will also cut back on health risks they could develope in the future. Males can get testicular cancer and females uterine cancer not to mention other things. Each vet is different when it comes to what age they will do it so you may want to ask. If you don't plan on breeding them definatly do it.

It is highly recommended because not all the pets get adopted. not everyone where you live would want a pet in their home because 1) they can't afford it 2) not able to take care of it because of financial problems 3) don't love animals at all. We don't want the pets to be euthanized (put to sleep) do we?

that it's always a good idea. there are too many unwanted animals running around and in shelters. like bob barker says, help control the pet population.

You should have it done somewhere around 4 or 5 months for cats and dogs. Buy them pain pills for afterward.

Usually wait until they are around 6 months if you don't plan to breed them. If you plan to breed them you have to wait until after they have had a litter or two.

If you plan to breed, then dont, if not please do because there are so many dogs out in the streets and pounds. We must educate people on breeding dogs, before they over populate.
