I'm a dancer and just put a cushion from your couch on the floor and spread your legs over it. Just don't have some one push you down further! And don't let anyone tell you can't. I have a friend who could'nt do them and now she can, so it's possible!

to get a split, of course you must stretch and sit in a split daily. but also try to oversplit.
take a pile of 2 or 3 school books and pile them on the floor after you have stretched. put one foot on the books and do a split as usual (as though there are no books there). hold for as long as you can and then switch to the other leg. do this every day. do a regular split, see how far you are. do an oversplit, and then try doing a regular split. see how far you are now. over time, you will notice a difference and that the oversplitting helps you.

dont listen to people who say you can get the splits in 2 weeks! It is different for everybody. The best dancer at my dance studio has been dancing for 10 years and still doesnt have her middle splits! me on the other hand have had them since i can remember.

The best ballet and jazz teachers have us do this:
-Lay down on the floor and put your butt against a wall with your feet straight up leaning against the wall
-Slowly lower your legs to the sides. open them up evenly! keep going down until you can really feel the stretch.
-Hold this until it feels comfortable and not as tight(could take minutes) Once you feel fine lower both legs at least an inch. hold this until it feels comfortable, lower, and repeat.

I suggest doing 5 min. intervals. take a break and do it over. The more often you stretch the faster it will come.

Here's some things that should help if you keep doing them eventually you'll be able to do the splits....
go down like your going to do a split, but bend your front leg so that it makes an 7.... make sure that your back leg is straight, also your thigh on your front leg should be aligned with your hips. hold that position for about 30-45 seconds then do a full split on that leg and hold for 1 minute (again make sure both legs are straight) Repeat on other leg, once you start to get more comfortable in the split try and hold it for 2 minutes.....If you practice your splits every night your bound to have them down eventually. Good luck and i hope that i helped.....

Mastery is what is attained over time with effort. In other words, keep trying. Don't over-extend yourself, but remain consistent within the perimeters of your limitations and you will soon find yourself being able to achieve those things which once seemed unlikely. It's not impossible. Even I can do the splits and I'm a forty-one year old man.

Splits do not happen in one day. You need to remember to take ten to twenty minutes each day and stretch. Each day you stretch remember do perform your splits. Hold each split for sixteen to twenty four counts.

while ur bored or sumting...streching..etc...try doing da splits. stand in an upside down v shape..ur feet spread apart..and go as low as u can..and then keep on trying..get sumone to push u down a bit (u should feel pain) and after a while ur muscles will get more flexible and u will b able 2 do da splits.

Geesh! You can either do them or you cannot. Most people are NOT that flexible and if you try and force the issue, you will injure yourself. Do not believe these people who tell you to stretch and then you can do them. Again, this could cause muscle tears and ligament pulls that can cause problems later in life (or sometimes right away). Again, you either have the flexibility or you don't. Period.
