I run a small clothing shop, and one of my customers suggested that we should install an aquarium. I was a little surprised, but she runs a locksmith, and said that having an aquarium is good for business because it keeps kids (and the occasional disinterested spouse) busy while the main customer shops. Has anyone had experience with this, and does it really work? If so, how big do you need? My shop is small (700 sq feet) and most of my customers are women in their 30's and 40's (yes, often with kids in tow -- that's why we have a play area with Legos).

anything that is interesting and makes the environment good is a good thing. Make it so nice to be there that folks stay all day and buy lots of clothes. Comfy chairs, sunlight, a nice rug, plants, soft music, tea.

This is going to sound ridiculous but I used to run a very small, mom and pop surf shop and when the owners decided to take the fish tank out business slowly trickled down until eventually the shop went under (luckily I got out of there before that happened. I begged them not to take that tank out, I'm not certain if the two were directly correlated but it was the only change that was made in the store so..............besides, it can't hurt right?) Good luck! Oh, one thing to consider though is that they are a bit difficult and costly to keep up so if you are going to put one in you should definitely do some research and find yourself the easiest kind of tank to take care of.

I think aquariums are alluring, not to mention, they add peacefulness to a room while at the same time they brighten it. I would get a wide array of various, odd fish also. But keep in mind you don't want the fish aquarium to be so tantilizing that it deters the shoppers from the "racks of clothing" happy sales!
