It's a young person trying to stand out and assert their independence by dressing up like a million other people.

Or maybe it's a young person so desperate to fit into some group that they'll make themselves look ridiculous for the sake of conformity. I'm not sure which!

stereotyped? Well, it's more of a label. And what ppl usually group with goth is "emo." (which IS a stereotype)Basically, goths wear black but it's strange because it originated from something different.. (Do gothic cathedrals click in your mind? LIKE MEDIEVAL Stuff, tribes, or a style of horror)

They're usually stereotyped as being depressed suicidal satanists or snotty, sarcastic b(r)ats (the younger set, mostly). General stereotypes are that they're apathetic, obsessed with death, blood and vampires, dress like corpses, like listening to psychotic music...well, those are the usual charges. Enjoy. (Or not...)
