Ok, so my girlfriend and I just got into it this morning. We were talking about driving and she was saying how stupid it is to have a car and not to drive it to school since it doesnt use much gas, and that if you dont drive it to school its basically useless.
I responed with " Well its kinda complicated, it makes more sense when you have a car, so once you get one I'm sure you views will change."
Then she took that as me "talking down on her" and treating her like a little kid, or talking to her like her father does...
Did I? Was it really that bad? We both just got into it 5minutes ago and I wanna know if it really was that bad? Or did she just overreact?
Can somebody give me their opinion?

No matter how old or how long a couple is together there is always a subtle power struggle. Neither side usually wants there to be, but it is human nature.
In this situation, you do have more power and maturity. She will understand when she gets a car. She was being sensitive. Think about it for a minute though...do parents say things so they can be right or because they care about their children. I think if you made the same argument without adding,"You'll understand when you get a car," she could have heard your concerns without getting defensive, but unintentionally, you put yourself in a superior position and that can cut off communication...FAST. Apologize, explain you weren't trying to talk down to her and move on. Life's too short for staying mad at people we care about.

Girls are kind of crazy about being treated like a little girl. I should know. next time think about what you are about to say. and always explane to her what you mean. like how even a little bit of gas costs money. and that if you were to drive to school for a month then you wouldn't have enough gas money for stuff like dates. and of corse she didn't over react.

it all depends on her view of it! some ppl just take things the wrong way and sometimes ppl say things the wrong way! say something like its saving on gas money so u have more money to do things with her, then bring her flowers or something! flowers work wonders! but sometimes men do say things they dont mean that way and grls do take it was getting talked down to, thats just the way we are! flowers man, just get flowers!
