Your culture is passed down to you from your family (that actually raised you), and acquired from your immediate environment. If your family didn't pass it on, then it's not your culture-no matter who your ancestors were. The traditions and customs you seek must come directly from your family.

The best way to gain appreciation for your own culture is to learn about other cultures.

You mean black and Indian or black indians? The only ones I think of are Seminoles. There is lots of info about them. Are speaking of the few slaves that ran away and joinded indian tribes?

Read about where your ancestors came from! Geneology is wonderful and will really ground you! Just ask some questions of the old timers in your family and see where they lead you.

You know it really gets to me when black people try to grasp at evry other culture besdies there own. Be who you are and accept it. Let go of the preoccupation with race and ethnicity and work on developing as an individual.

If you know which Native American tribe you're descended from, you might try googling for their website, or reading their wikipedia article. Good luck.

"my people?"
no offense but that's how the pure-blooded indians want to keep it: blacks staying out of their community. they are sick and tired of "black-indians" claiming to be indian.

I remember this guy in Milwaukee who really hated blacks claiming to be indian. LOL
