I am 14, and I know I can increase my IQ with mind test whilst things such as watching tv a lot lowers your IQ.
By watching tv a lot in my life will my IQ be pernamently affected or can I soon bounce back to my full potential.
Will it improve my study skills much as I have important exams this year?
Thanks

Firstly, IQ is how smart you are. There's a difference between smart and clever. Smart means you can understand stuff really fast but clever means you know a lot of knowledge that's why an AUTHENTIC IQ test will ONLY involves diagrams and shapes, rarely words. So watching television may increase your general knowledge, making you become more clever. How smart you are actually depends on genes and how much you use your brains. The more you use your brains to think, the less brain cells die. By the way, once brain cells die, they are IRREPLACEABLE. That's why people get Alzheimer's. So you CAN drop your IQ if you don't partake in brain activities such as watching mindless television for a long time.

By the way, those books that actually promises to increase your IQ is a fallacy. They just provide you with brain activities to prolong your brain cells' lives.

Watching TV can be a colossal waste of time or an educational experience. If you get interested in science or history you can learn loads of good information on the History channel and the discovery channel. Many public TV stations have on line courses too which will further your education and are really more interesting than all but the best action movies.
Limit your recreational TV to 3 or 4 shows a week and you should be fine. I personally got rid of my TV years ago and because of that my reading and knowledge has increased
tremendously. Also, if you watch football, any game involving the Cleveland Browns, New York Jets, or the Tennessee Titans
is sure to be a waste of time.
Seriously, watching too much TV won't make you stupid, but it is time wasted when you could be improving your mind.

I would imagine that the only way your IQ would be adversely affected by TV is if you watch rubbish. There are lots of other programmes that actually make you smarter by imbibing you with knowledge of the world around you, i.e., nature programmes, news, current affairs and serious quiz shows. There's no need to think that you will 'grow' stupid just because you watch TV a lot!

TV does not lower your IQ and if you watch the right programmes can help you learn a lot and therfore increase your IQ.

Depends on what programs you are watching. Believe it or not you can learn a lot from 'quiz shows'. The best would be Jeopardy. Other programs on A&E, History channel, Discovery Network, Animal Planet and a few others are also helpful.

Actually IQ is not easily lowered or raised, it is suposed to be a measure of potential not of apptitude. The only surefire way to modify your IQ is to get brain damage. To the best of my knowledge as much time as TV has wasted it has never actually caused real brain damage, unless you count MTV.

Knowedge is different from IQ, so no amount of watching TV will make a difference.
