This sound bizzarre, but try it....get a friend or husband to massage your big toes.....it works...I used to do it for my first wife.

I also take meds in the same family as imitrex/maxalt (zomig), but my neurologist has also prescribed topamax, a preventive medication that makes the migraines less intense & less frequent... I also have stadol nasal spray (it's a heavy narcotic) to use only when the maxalt does not work... I take this instead of having my husband take me to the ER.... I also have phenergan at home- medication for nausea & vomiting-- this also tends to help with the headache too...
ask your doctor about these as well
good luck

Reiki is "energy work"- you could try it-- honestly I've tried it, nada--
meditation is better, massage is good, acupuncture might help too.

* a plain classic Coke always helps too- not Diet Coke, regular.

I usually use Aleeve and sleep. I also found that if I can find a way to hang upside down for a little while it helps. I have heard most Migraines are caused from constricted blood vessels in the head, this seems to get some blood going up there. Don't do it too long, just till it subsided for about 30 seconds, then lay in darkness with my forearm over my eyes until I can fall asleep. I think most people that get Migraines have our own silly sounding tricks. Almost forgot take the Aleeve with Mountaing Dew, or Cofee. If you get them a lot see a doctor to find out what the root cause is. Mine is caused by a pinched nerve in my upper back, but it is also a signal to me that I may have an anxiety attack coming on. Other people need sugar, others are caused by high blood pressure, or high sugar count. Then there are others that unfortunately have no idea why they get them. Good luck. Migraines suck.

Hi. I've been a sufferer for 10+ years now and i had to switch to Zomig. the Imitrex shots and pills both stopped working. Zomig is pricey and most insurance only cover 6 pills a month which isn't much.
Daily i take a b12 (riboflavin and 250mg naprozen to keep the dailys away and it's worked ok for a little while. Of course with everything, your body builds up a tolerance. i've tried ant-depressants and no luck with those at all.

First determine that you really do have a migraine and not just tension headache. Try this by giving your jaw muscles a good stretch and massage. Start at the temples rubbing in tiny circles and work your way down to the jaw. Do the same to eyebrows and nose. This should help a little.

Next, take two Ibuprofen and drink at least two cans of Coke or Pepsi. (The real deal, not diet, you need the caffeine and sugar, sweetener will only upset your stomach further if you are already feeling sick). You don't need to drink fast, but make sure you do drink.

Repeat as necessary. Good luck!

Don;t know about Reike. However, a lot of people find a relief from something simple. Drink a 16 oz glass of pure water in 10 minutes or less. That's it. Works for some, doesn't work for others. Good luck!

I lived in La Crescenta and Canoga Park in southern CA in the early 1970s. I had terrible migraines in Canoga Park. The medicine would help BUT ...

The migraines seemed to come in relation to the smog (which I couldn't control) as well as stress and cleaning products.

When I moved to Seymour, CT I had a lot fewer migraines but I still got some so I started paying attention to the cleaning products that I used.

I have not had any migraines for more than 30 years and don't miss them one single bit.

My advice is to move away from smog, watch what you use for cleaning products and avoid stress.

God bless you.

I'm the same way. I found a combination of Midrin and Fioricet to work. Two Midrin (a migraine specific medicine) and one Fioricet (a pain killer) at the begining of the Migraine help a lot.

I also use Imitrex which works most of the time. I heard that magnesium sometimes helps, but I have not tried it yet. Best of luck!

First thing I would try is: Stop eating or drinking anything with Aspartame (Equal) sweetner. This includes diet sodas, sugar-free gum or breath mints, Crystal Light, etc. Excessive ingestion of Aspartame has been proven to cause headaches and migraines.

I take axert but it makes me feel drunk.
I usually do a mountain dew & aleve/advil as soon as my migraine begins.
Then I lay down in a dark, quiet room & take a nap.
By the time I wake up it is usually most of the way gone.
