I think that the number of means of communication exceeds the the amount of things to communicate. We have mail, mobiles, sms, faxes but so little to say from the bottom of our hearts nowaadys

I'll just say that people have lost the art of communication. People don't use big words, use tons of slang, improper grammar, tense use etc. I mean people like to "tell" you about their day and "tell" you stuff, but (two way) "communication" is too involved I guess for people to handle. ohh...and for every way of having a communication (ie cell phone, text, etc) ...there's always more and more "junk mail"/spam/ads....and ways to avoid people like caller ID etc. I think life is getting more and more impersonal. And that's REAL SAD......BUT now that I mention that, I would never had met you or been able to answer your question here, so this is neat...but I would have liked to meet you in a coffee shop and just talked rather than cyber.

What you've cited as means of communication are merely options to choose the mode in which one chooses to communicate. The fast variety of things to communicate has gotten more complex as technology advances.....often we're communicating about some form of communication. Telephoning someone to see if indeed they did receive that fax,,,calling the company whose cell phone account we're having trouble with ...etc..etc.. I do agree with you that there is less communication from the bottom of ones heart with the exception of when one is in LOVE. In which case one can and often does use any and all possible ways to send the message to their beloved! Flowers..phone calls. text messages....cards in the mail...

I agree that a lot of what is being communicated isn't usually deep, heartfelt sentiments, but I think people are staying in touch more these days because of the many means of communication. For example, my mother hadn't spoken to her siblings in years and now they all converse regularly via e-mail. It's just easier to stay connected. I think that's a good thing.

Yes I think your right..I saw half a dozen teenagers in a cafe the other day all sat at the table to gether and they were all glued to their mobiles phones..no conversation between them...youngsters seem to be losing the ability to converse other than thro text messages in that strange language that now seems to be the THING...

Wow i completely agree. We have way too many mediums for communication while we don't really have anything to say.
