I'm getting all muddled up with my passe compose and imparfait. How do you say "everything was replaced"?
And, if you care to further your help, if 'appareil' is appliance, what's appliances?

I would go with 1.

Plural of appareil is appareils

imparfait is for actions that last, whereas passe compose is a brief action, that you consider over.
appareil doesnt always mean appliance so if your talking about appliance as in domestic appliances better say "Les appareils electro-ménagers"

you just add an s if it's plural


Don't use free translations - it's not accurate a lot of the time! My friend used it for his coursework and he got a D.
