the bike runs fine in neutral but when I put it in first and let the clutch out it stalls. Anyone have any suggestions? I changed the plugs and I am thinking it could be the coils? Or the switch for the kickstand? Let me know if you have any knowledge about this. This is a kawasaki ZX11-1991

before I took it apart, it was backfiring and stalling. Now just wont run in gear, just in neutral. This is a Kawa KZ 1100, 1991. I changed the plugs and thought it might be the coil? I have put up the kickstand, and it runs fine, until in gear. any solutions besides the kickstand switch?

When you let the clutch out in 1st gear it stalls?
Is this at idle speed?
Every vehicle I've had with a manual transmission (including my cycles) will stall if not given enough gas.

I know this sounds stupid, but we could use a little more info.
There is a big difference between stalling and ignition being turned off.

I'm not that familiar with Kawasakis, only had Suzuki, Yamaha, and a bunch of Hondas. Your problem sounds like one I had with a Honda 650. 2 cylinders on same coil not firing/misfiring. Problem was a bad CDI box. It's what triggers the coil. No pulse = no fire.

Put the kickstand up or disable/replace the switch.

My mate has a Trumpy ST and the sidestand switch collects muck. He has to physically pull the switch out to get it going sometimes, I would either disconnect the sidestand switch or short it whichever helps...

if it was the kick switch it wouldnt start at all until you have the leg up. you can check the switch for continuity very easily. you can rule this out fast
