Yesterday, when the tragic news of the plane crash was still unfolding, one of the anchors made the statement the "Cory Lidle was killed in the accident, which involved his plane, but no one has said this yet because his wife has not been notified" -- Is this yet another sign that the media has gone to far, and has no respect for anyone in the name of being the first to get the story? Seriously, think about it, if you were his wife, would you want to hear of your husband's death on an INTERNATIONAL BROADCAST? I think ESPN, and all the news outlets involved yesterday, should make open air apologies to his family for not having the slightest respect for their grief.

Your opinions, please.

Yes I disagree with the broadcaster's decision to openly broadcast the death without the wife being notified. ESPN is looking for attention whether it is good or bad, attention is attention. It will bring in the viewers. Perhaps it is a way of stretching the limits and seeing if the public would react in a horrific way to the announcer's outburst. They might think that viewers will turn in to ESPN because they are going to get the news reported before all other networks. Very sad to hear the disrespect and cold heartlessness that people have for one another now a days.
God Bless the family of Cory Lidle.
Very good question and yes they have crossed to line.

I heard the same quote yesterday and I actually feel ESPN was the only one in the right. They were not the first to repot it was Cory Lidle in the plane, but the likes of CNN, Fox News, Headline News (affiliate of CNN), MSNBC, etc., that were the first to report that it was Lidle.

CNN and Fox News were both reporting that there were four deaths and ESPN said that it was only two. Out of all of those networks covering the crash, I feel that ESPN was the least sensational and the most dutiful in their coverage.

By the time ESPN went to the live coverage (around 5 pm), they covered the life of Cory Lidle and discussed with those that had known him about what a family man he was.

While the identity of the Cory should have been concealed until his wife and child could be notified, one of the first things reported on the crash site was that Cory's passport was found on the ground after the crash and the news carriers did the research to connect the two before any true information was provided.

espn is constantly pushing the envelop, going overboard by any means. if its BIG sports news, they have to be the 1st to report it. besides, their the #1 sports news broadcast. its sad and my prayers go out to lidle's family. however, while everyone was trying to confirm it, espn, just wanted to be the 1st to tell the world that it was his plane. even ifi t wasn't confirmed. i have lost much respect for espn throughout the years for how they've been covering news, as well as their anchor's who don't do nothing but yell at each other during a game. thats not commentating.

If I understand you correctly, I don't think they did anything wrong. I probably wouldn't even be angry if that happened to me. You might say "that's another downside to being in the public eye" but his family knew that.
