I really don't know much about DVD recorders. Are they better than VCR's and are they as easy to use. What are the pluses and minus's?

Definitely a good idea. You will get great clear pictures, no tracking problems, incredible sound and usually they are easier to use. Also you can get units with built in hard drives that allow you to record without disks and save hours of shows and movies. Comparing to a VCR it is all pluses. I would look and a good known brand with a good warranty, and that will work with as many disk formats out there. The Bigger the hard drive the more hours you can save without disks. The biggest problem is if you want to use it to copy protected media you may be limited because of copy protection but this is the same as for VCR's. Also if your vcr was a coaxial hook up make sure your new unit will be able to connect to your TV ect. Hope this helps Mike

It depends on what exactly you need to do. Will you be recording DVD's? Or just watching them? If you know you're not going to record much, just get a standard DVD player - or a DVD-VCR combo so you can still watch your tapes. The players are pretty cheap now too. Good luck!

Definetely go with DVD Recorder. Certainly VCR's seem to be on the way out. You can certainly copy vcr tapes on to dvd disc.
