I think it had something to do with my brakes, but it makes the noise even when im not touching them. its pretty high pitched and not that loud, but noticeable...does anyone that actually knows about cars know what it may be? (i have a mazda3 ...if that helps)

Brake tattlers are telling you that your brakes are worn out. There's a little piece of metal that stick out from the brake pad that makes contact with the rotor and squeels when your brake pads have worn low.

If this had just started, get your car to a brake shop immediately to have your brakes inspected. The tattler makes the noise by contacting the rotor. If you let it go on for too long you'll go metal to metal with the pads against the rotor and it will require you to replace the rotors entirely. If it hasn't gone on too long, the shop may be able to salvage the rotors by only turning them instead of replacing them and save you $50.

i own a repair shop, and its probably the brake warning wear indicators that are making the noise, they lightly rub the rotors and make a sort of shrieking sound that is supposed to let you know its time for new pads on it,if its doing this its probably time for some new pads on it,id have them checked pretty soon on it because you don't want to loose you brakes on it,good luck i hope this help,s.

It is the brake pad wear warning tab making contact with the rotor. Have your brakes checked before you do expensive damage. That is why the warning tab is there.
