Any ready mixed cement will do. Do not use any mortar mix. It will eventually become porous. First dig a hole at least 2 feet deep, using the post hole digger. Empty a 60# cement mixture into a plastic or metal pan. You will create a homogenous mixture by doing this. Then add approximately one gallon of water, and mix with a trowel. Add more water if necessary until the mixture is free flowing from your trowel. Then fill up the hole. Cover the post holder so that it will not be filled up with the cement mixture. Then, push it down to the hole until it is levelled with the surface of your yard.

Doesn't really matter for this application. So if you have some of this around the house, you can go ahead and use it. If you are going out to buy some, just get a bag of sack-crete or some premixed cement/sand/aggregate mix available at the hardware store.

Go get the quick-rete. put your pole in the ground where you want it to sit. Dump the quick-rete in the hole then just mix some water from the garden hose (don't use too much) get a broom handle and kinda poke to mix the cement and water. It will be hard in about 10 hours and you will be set

I've used a mix called Quik-crete, which is really easy to use. I just dug the hole, added part of the mix, then water, then mixed, then repeated, until hole is full. It worked great for deck posts, which are more weight bearing than your clothesline will be. I liked it because I didn't have to use anything to mix it in. Go to the DIY website and you should be able to print off better, step by step instructions.

buy a bag of ready mix cement that would be the easiest & cheapest for such a small job, but if you have any other cementing jobs to do it could work out cheaper to buy a bag of cement and a few bags of sand make a mix of approx 5 sand to one cement.
