i think i've seen more racism on yahoo answers than i have EVER seen in my life. i think its because some people are anonymous and dont say this stuff in public but here they feel like they can. i think its pretty sad because think about you walking somewhere and people thinking really racist things about you. (and no this has nothing to do with the immgration thing) im just talking about racism. isnt it sad?

Truer words have never been spoken on Yahoo Answers. I said the exact same thing. Most of the people that spew that mess are cowardly and are glad they can't be confronted.

Sad?

No.

That isn't how I might describe it. But that aside, is the expression of racism really such a bad thing?

How healthy is it to go about your business, day in day out, believing that racism doesn't exist just because nobody voices it? It's like swanning around believing that AIDS has been cured if nobody talks about it any more. How long before you stop taking precautions? How long before it infects you because you made the wrong assumptions?

Suppressing reality doesn't change reality. It serves only to drive it underground, and away from the light of day it can fester and turn in to something truly dreadful.

I'd rather know where I stand any day of the week than be duped by some kind of socially imposed code of silence in to believing everything is okay.

Let the racists chant openly, I say.

At least then you know which choirs to avoid, and which ones will embrace you.

I agree with you about the anonymous part but I also believe that the majority of the racist comments are from the younger users on this service. And they are doing it just to get attention.... It least I hope that I am right..

I believe that 50% of the racist comments are made by kids trying to get a rise out of people.

Yeah I've seen a fair amount of it on here. It's ridiculous what some people say and you really do just wonder what the point of it is.

So sad...and every time I see it on here, I feel bad for those of the race offended and I wonder why Yahoo tolerates it.

Yeah it is. I did want to post up something like this before, but I was afraid that if people saw my question, they would curse me out from prior knowledge of other people's questions.
