I've been saving the extra money that I've saved by staying there to buy a gift for her, but it's too early, as I don't have enough to buy her the necklace. I apologized for the lie, but she stopped talking to me.

OK let's assume you are telling the truth about the hotel. You never said why you were there in the first place and if it was for work then your employer should have paid anyway. However, if you don't lie, then you don't have to remember what you said because what you said was the truth and you should know that. If your story is legit then you have to tell the truth and prove that you have the money for the necklace. If it's not true you need to come clean anyway.

Tell her immediately. Tell her the real reason why. You can just tell her it's for a gift; you don't have to say what it is. After you tell her the real reason, DON'T LIE again. I know you probably thought it was harmless, but it's not. I've caught my boyfriend lying to me in order to cover up something sweet that he was planning for me, and it also backfired on him. We (women) don't want to doubt what you say. But every time you lie (regardless of the reason why), it gives us more reason not to believe you.

You're not a good enough BS'er. If that were true you'd fess up to save your marriage and show here where all the extra money is.

Lying is NEVER a good idea. It always makes you look bad, no matter what the reason for it was. You have no choice but to tell your wife why you did it, and hope she will believe you.

It was a sweet gesture to think of buying her a neclace, BUT NEVER LIE TO WOMEN. we never get over it... and she is proably having a hard time coping with this!
tell her about the neclace....
it will be really hard to regain her trust, but treat her like she is the only thing you have, like she is your most prized posession, like you would die without her....
thats how we want to be treated. love her... thats what she needs.

my advice: tell her about the neclace

ps why did u have receipts anyways?

Does your job require you to travel? If not then why are you staying at a hotel? If you are cheating go ahead and tell her so you can get your walking papers.
