An infinite number of combinations exist, if you are allowed to use negative 4 digit numbers...

You can do it with two (one negative one positive), 3 (two negative and one positive, or one negative and two positive) and so on.

If the question means how many 4 digit number pairs add up to 200 and negative numbers are allows then the answer is the number of 4 digit positive and neagtive numbers that are off set by 200. That is 9999-1200 or 8799 pairs or 17598 individual numbers. If you are not limited to pairs of numbers then the answer approaches Infinity. You can add additional positive and negative numbers that offset for a infinite number of combinations.

If the question is restricted to positive integers then the answer is 0.

Any 4 digit number would have to be more than 200.
They only way to make two 4 digit numbers add to 200 is if one of them was negative. So things like this would work..
9999 - 9799
1200 - 1000
now how many of them would there be?
every number between 1200 and 9999 would work if you subtracted the number that is 200 less.

9,999 - 1,200 = 8,799 combos

None as 9999 being the largest 4 digit number only adds up to 36. 9+9+9+9=36

Upto 800. A four digit number can be negative also. Example= 2000 + (-1800) = 200

Hi >
This is off the top of the nut, so probably wrong.
I have a lamb thing in the oven, so must rush a bit.
Er, factorials. erm I suppose a summation of primes.
Or ask a simple Qbasic program to do all the possibilities that lead to 200.
Or have I missed a simple answer ?
I might run a prog, and get back.
Nice one.

none because four digits numbers are like 1,000 and up to 9,999 and only two digit numbers and three digit numbers can add up to 200

9999 + -9799
9998 + -9798
.....
1200 + -1000

Therefore there is a total of 8800 posible 4 digit numbers that add up to 200 assuming you only add once.
