I am having behavior problems with a particular student of mine...he is a wonderful worker in my Language Arts class, but in study hall, his behavior is completely different. He says it is because there are no grades in study hall, so there's no reprucussions to his grade if he doesn't behave. Detentions don't seem to be a deterrant. I think he just wants teacher attention (which is what he gets from detention)...ideas to make this into a positive situation?

I am well aware that giving him negative attention is still giving him attention. However, here is more information about the situation--he is the only 8th grader in an other wise all 7th grade study hall (and no--there is no other classroom to move him to). The example he sets quite often can determine the behavior of the other students. They look up to him. That's why I want to get to him first--if I can help him get his behavior under control, than (in theory) the rest of the class will see it and keep their behavior under control.

make him responsible, so the kids look up to him. make him your special helper. have him do SOMETHING for you..clip, collate, hand out papers..anything you can come up with! do it everyday. make him feel as if he is important to you & that his help is needed by you. speak w/ him about this first. like, you know, John, since you are the only 8th grader, i could really use your help here. Give him responsibility & praise him for the positives! send notes home to parents, paraise to other teachers, etc. i taught, ED high school for over 20 years. joking & gising them responsibilty & praise pretty much was the key. good luck!

Give more extra credit opportunities in your LA class, so he'll have something to do in study hall. Also, you might want to ignore him a little bit and not pay attention to every "bad" thing he does. If all he wants is attention, and he is receiving attention, then all you are doing is positively reinforcing the behavior.

My issues are that i'm 18 and that i don't have a job, I left college at 13-14 and not in any respect went lower back, I haven't any GCSE's and not the rest, i'm able to't get a job to assist my mum who's suffering each week to maintain a roof over our head. i detect it perplexing to fulfill new human beings, or to even pass away the domicile as i think that I genuinely have Agoraphobia and achieveable Asperger's Syndrome - in simple terms like my brother. Yeah existence is perplexing, yet i'm attempting to tug myself mutually the excellent i'm able to, one step at a time & all that.. in simple terms sense fairly valueless sometimes, suicidal ideas have cropped up better than as quickly as.. yet i do no longer think of I genuinely have the balls to kill myself, or i could have performed it already.

It sounds that he needs to always be working on something. The idea that the others posted sounds like a good idea or enroll him into another class where he can work in.
