Traditional Chinese Medicine has evolved from at least 5000 years of trial and error and systematization of methods and remedies, recorded in handbooks. It has a high level of sophistication and subtleness. Many methods and remedies like acupuncture have proven to be effective (through Western scientific research) in different ways. Acupuncture for relieving pain is certainly less dangerous than taking Vioxx. (pharmaceutical product; scientifically tested, approved, but dangerous and taken of the market) There is a problem with Chinese medicinal herbs though. This has nothing to do with their effectiveness, but with environmental pollution.

Well, the difference between chinese traditional medicine and medical science is that medical science tends to focus on the symptoms of the problem.

Eg, you have pimples on your back and thus you are given cream to remove the pimples.

TCM believes that your body is all linked and they cure the root of the problem. Eg, the same pimples on your back is a weak liver.. so they will give you something to strengthen your liver.

And because TCM goes to the root of the problem, you will find that the problem will not come back.. but because medical sciences solves the surface problem, the problem may come back after some time.

That is why there is a saying that medical science "treats the symptoms and not the roots" and are sometimes seemed as less effective as Chinese Medicine.

But whether you see good results is also dependent on whehter you get a good chiense doctor ;)

Maybe ! it depend the seriousness of the sickness. Chinese medicine is a very slow healing process, thus don't expect overnight recovery. What I know is that it is good for our body maintenance, but should the sickness already happened then better to lie on the operating table and pray for the best.

If you mean Chinese Medicine as in herbal supplements, yes they are very effective. You have to remember that these supplements were around before modern medicine and they have been working for thousands of years. You just have to remember that they do take time to work. Unlike modern medicine which is made to treat a certain ailment, herbal supplements are menat to treat the body so the body can heal itself, so the action is not as fast but it works just as good. It all depends on how your body reacts to the supplements.

I practice Ayurveda (India) and Natural Healing for almost 6 years now.
It's been a great asset to my life and I am a motivational speaker on these subjects.
Some really great herbs to take for building the immune system include:: Astragalus, Ginger, Turmeric, Cinnamon, Oil of Oregano, Holy Basil.
There are many herbs for specific ailments. If you have any questions, I would be more than glad to help you out with information...

Sincerely.....
