Some guy was just asking for your sad songs so I am asking for your greats. The song that makes you melt. The one that gets you every time. Mine is Van Morrison ( Have I told you lately that I love you). It reminds me of my dad.

I have two faves - Dance with My Father, it's so tender and personal and Luther sings it from the heart (it is fitting that such a soul legend had this as a last release), it also reminds me of my late Father and never fails to make me cry.

My other "great" for sheer emotion is Joy and Pain - a real classic by Maze, it gives me goosebumps whenever I hear it, it reminds me of my first love.

Two songs which bring a tear to my eye each time I hear them, even though I don't particularly associate them with anything sad, are "Find The River" by REM and "Your Funny Uncle" by Pet Shop Boys.

"Song With No Name" - Shane McGowan, and a Chet Atkins one that I've only heard once, and I don't know it's name. That was about his Dad, like a few of the others mentioned in answers.

Lionel Richie and Diana Ross - Endless Love - My partner (of 18 years) and I were dancing to this record at a friends engagement party, and he told me he loved me for the very first time, so it holds very special memories for me.
