I have lost an item of clothing at work that my boss states will need a formal report submitting.Once the report has been submitted i will be sent for interview to discuss why i lost it. What should i do to make this less embarrasing? and do you agree that this is just a pointless paper exercise and only giving someone else something else to do?

How did you loose a part of your uniform? Anywho, everyone is right, if it's part of your uniform (I'm assuming you are some sort of law enforcement/rentacop?) It's property that belongs to your employer. Someone could try and impersonate a.... well whatever you are, so it makes sense, just go through it.

If you were a patient at a hospital and had something stolen I'd have more sympathy with you but rules are rules so try to think where you last saw the garter belt, leather thong, feather boa and live chicken or just put it down to experience.

If you drop the issue, I've been reliably informed, the RSPCA won't need to get involved any further than the initial witness reports already taken by the police.

Did you lose your skivvies? Well, I'd suck it up and do the paperwork. Yes it's a bit of a time waster, but likely it's to teach responsibility and a respect for your uniform and appearance. The interview seems like overkill... unless it was a crucial part of your work wear.

As for what you should do to ease the embarrasment... well, honesty is a good start, followed by the assertion that it won't happen again. Oh, and you should probably mean that. :D Good luck!

All the questions you need to answer should be on the report; why do you need to be interviewed also? Was this clothing worth millions? Just be honest and get it over with. You said you lost it, so explain that you lost it and thats that.

If I was you, I would do the paper work with the proper explanation. I know what you do, I do it too. I agree is a little stupid paper exercise, but don't worry, I know that almost everybody in the force had went through out this. Good luck.

Did someone take it, or did you lose it. Sounds like a pointless paper exercise like you said!

Good grief! What kind of place do you work in? If we knew why we lost something, we wouldn't lose it, would we. I would try to express my regret for losing whateverthehell it was, and offer to reimburse the company. If they want this to be an exercise in embarrassment and humiliation, look for another job.
