triskadekaphobia is the fear of the #13

Friday the 13th is not, however, unlucky. Unless you happen to vacation at Crystal Lake

As Tim implies, Friday the 13th was considered an unlucky day because that was the date on which Phillip II of France's orders to arrest the Templars was carried out, in 1307.

Triskaidekaphobia is the fear of the number 13. (According to Wikipedia, the specific fear of Friday the 13th is called paraskavedekatriaphobia.) It may be an outgrowth of the Friday the 13th thing, or it could have to do with the tie-in with witchcraft. Since there are 13 lunar cycles in a year, the number is considered lucky or sacred to many wiccans. This connection might have something to do with 13 being seen as unlucky or somehow "evil." Unfortunately, modern wiccan tradition stems from limited sources, mostly a from the 20th century, so it's unclear whether people were aware of this idea back in the day when the13 superstition was getting started.

Triskaidekaphobia is a fear of the number 13. A specific fear of Friday the 13th is called paraskavedekatriaphobia or friggatriskaidekaphobia. Friday the 13th was the day all of the Knights of the Templar were arrested in 1307. The Kinghts of the Templar were trying to protect the Christians in a world where Paganism was ruler and Christianity was beginning to bud. The Knights were formed around 1060, but Christians deemed Friday the 13th to be unlucky due to the fact that so many of the Knights protecting them were arrested and killed.

Triskadekaphobia is a fear of the number 13.

Paraskavedekatriaphobia is a fear of Friday the 13th.

Neither is unlucky unless you give it the power to be. The fear that Friday the 13th is a bad day dates back to the Knights Templar who were tortured and killed on Friday the 13th

I've never found Friday the 13th to be unlucky. In fact I've always had a very pleasant day when it happens to be a Friday and the 13th of the month. I'm actually quite fond of the convergence of that day and number.

Sometime in the past, centuries ago, the Knights Templar were rounded up without warning (or much reason) and killed. The date was October 13th, and it was a Friday.

well...i guess if you believe in it. i don't and didn't..but when i was at school, i tripped off the pavement i had walked on safely for the past three years, and fell onto the road into the way of an oncoming car. fortunately, it was up a hill, and the car was travelling slowly enough to brake. there was a group of us that were the only ones that did a particular course at my school. on the same day, one of them fell down a flight of stairs, and tore her ligament. another fell off a chair..and the fourth was in a slight car accident. a bad friday the 13th for us four i say=(.. coincidentally, only us four
