'My story' consists of the three books he wrote, 'a child called it', 'the lost boy', and 'a man called dave'. I thought they were absolutely brilliant and i wondered if there was anyone else out there who has read them and could you recommend any similar sorts of books?

I have read the books and I thought that they were wonderful and well written. I also liked that despite all that his mother and (lack of) father did to him, he still forgives them. It is a true story of the underdog coming out on top.
There is a book that I read before I started reading the David Pelzer books. it is called "Sickened" by Julie Gregory. It is a memoir of her growing up with a mother that has Manchausen-by-proxy. A mental disorder in which the mother makes a child of hers sick (by poisoning or just making her believe it), in order to gain attention from doctors. It is truly a very sad and scary book.. I hope that you take the time to read this and learn about the rare forms of child abuse.

Just finished reading all three books myself, certainly was an eye opener.

A couple that you may enjoy is One Child and The Tiger's Child by Torey Hayden. Both were excellent.

Hope this helps.

I agree - they are brilliant & quite harrowing.

There's a book called "Ugly" by Constance Briscoe which is a similar story (ie horrific true tale of child abuse) - I couldnt put it down.

the story is so compelling, and disturbing, but it´s also hard to put down cos you wait for the happy ending, it´s even more sad that it´s true i can´t recommend any other books like that cos quite frankly, there is no other book like it.

I got half way through 'A Child called It' and had to stop. I found it too upsetting.
