OMG my parents put that in an ad in my senior year annual.

"Kim-
OK, so what's the speed of dark?!"

It was really funny.

But seriously. Speed requires something to travel, to be displaced, since darkness is not a thing, but a lack of a thing, and certainly does not travel, it cannot have a speed. I suppose you could equate it to stopped light, however (as in a shadow where the light cannot travel through the medium) and here you might say the speed is zero.

Dark is always there its just overtaken by the light that is artificially made or by the sun. But if you were to put a speed on it, the only thing you could say is it is the exact same speed as light because it follows right behind the light leaving, there is nothing in between, therefore making dark the exact same speed as light. Which is 670,616,629.384 miles per hour.

I am guessing that since light is made up of particles, it can have a speed. Darkness isn't made up of anything, so it doesn't have a speed. Unless there is such a thing as dark light, in which case my opinion means nothing. :-)

PJ had it totally backwards. Dark doesn't exist, it is just absence of light. But if it did, it would probably be the same as light, because as soon as light leaves, dark is there.

Negative of the speed of light, or -c. This competes with my negative mass question. Dr. J is wrong.
