I've had friends who also had to face this pain. It's a gut twisting tragedy, which is why I would like us very much not to dedicate a month. There's no reason to make people sad and depressed for an entire month out of the year. Hopefully they used the money they'd set aside for advertising the "SIDS Awareness Month" into researching a cause for SIDS. The saddest part of SIDS is that awareness of it cannot prevent it. I'm very sorry for your loss; and very hopeful for a cure, so that no mother has to endure that ever again.

No. I'm incredibly sorry for your loss. My baby died 14 years ago on Nov 2 and I still get angry about the lack of awareness related to his death.
My children all have fragile X syndrome and Oct. 5 was Fragile X Syndrome Research day and I bet you didn't hear about that either.
Breast cancer awareness is everywhere this month and I wouldn't doubt SIDS has been overshadowed.

I did know about the disease. I lost a newborn cousin to it several years ago. I did *not* know that there was a SID Awareness Month, however. Thank you for giving it some publicity. It most definitely deserves that, as it deserves greater research funding.
And i am really sorry to hear of your personal loss. That is so sad.

I actually did know that October was SID awareness month, but you're right a lot of people probably don't yet people focus on other "awareness months". I am so sorry about your son. I wish they would broadcast the awareness topic of Oct. more!

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is a issue where new born babies die suddenly for no reason. Some babies just stop breathing and die. However, it isn't as common as the other disease that October is for, Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Nope...but my friend's lost their son at 4 months old. It's sad. But everyone should be aware by now that babies should sleep on their backs.
