My younger son is 22. He really wants to be a Coach maybe even a High School Coach. He loves Sports (all) and it is his life. He is still in College as he keeps changing his Major. How does he become a coach and what classes or major should he take?
Any Help please?

When i was in undergrad i worked as a coach for a Jr high team. I think the best way is to start doing it as soon as you can. If his goal is to be a high school coach i would say start coaching and look into becoming a teacher. I know where i was, they liked the HS coaches to also be involved with as their teachers. Maybe also a PE teacher? i dunno...maybe he could start as an assistant coach at a HS or with a kids team to get some experience.

If I wanted to be a Coach, I'd approach this question the same way I did with the legal profession when I was deciding whether it was something I'd want to do or not.

He should identify every Coach, regardless of sport or school level, who he finds worthy of his respect (by whatever standards he chooses) and is within whatever distance he is willing to go to do this research.

Invite them to a one-on-one lunch. Ask them about the job of Coach, and how THEY got there. Do not make any statements; if it isn't a question, don't say it. I assure you everyone in the world loves to talk about themselves, so he'll probably get about 75% or more acceptances of the invitations.

Beats asking here.

Usually the coach of any sport has to be be an excellent athlete in that sport him or herself, but not always...although I'm sure it HELPS to have been one!
