Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971) is my favorite. It's a classic and it's what I grew up watching. Though Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a good movie, it shows Wonka as this weird guy who's paranoid and skiddish around kids where as the Gene Wilder's Wonka was portrayed more as a kind caring guy with a tad bit of a weird side. Plus the fact that I grew up watching the old Wonka and that's where a lot of my memories come from. The first one still rocks after all these years!

I like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971) because it was a great original. But the one in 2005 was too creepy and crazy.

Hands Down Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory cause its the original and its just better there is no explanation to give one of my favorite movies and I'm 21 this movie came out when my mother was young

I like the new one. "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)" bcuz they included the a bit of Willy Wonka´s life in it this time, which i thought made all the difference, and explained alot. :)

I saw the 1971 version many years ago, but not the 2005 version. In fairness, i should not choose a favourite without having seen both.
I do love chocolate, however, so i am open to seeing either of them should they show up on television.

It has to be the original - it's a classic. Gene Wilder was so perfect as Willy Wonka, you can watch it over and over.
