The phrasing of that question causes me to believe that it is a homework question.

Don't rip yourself off by getting others to do your research for you.

Before recorded sound, popular culture was almost non existant. Prior to its invention, pop culture was a bunch of rich people sitting around discussing the latest Oscar Wilde novel. I say rich people because most of the masses didn't really have access to books, and if they did they couldn't read anyway. Recorded sound brought a new sense of togetherness to the common people, because it was mass produced and you didn't have to actively involve yourself in it like you would a book, it was just there. I'm speaking about music, of course; films with sound are a little different. Basically, what it did was make musicians more famous, and if you've ever seen 5 minutes worth of VH1, the effect is pretty obvious.

interesting question! I am a musician and I cannot imagine my world without music. It definately has the power to infulence peoples moods and people respond to music in a certain way - think of patriotism shown with National Anthems, the uplifting happiness felt with music played when getting ready to go out, club music and how dancers respond to it, film sound tracks -which influence the movie - goers experience - films can make polel cry - that is partly due to the music; imaging the motional scene from 'the Champ' without music. I think it is often taken for granted by so many, and many people simply don't realise just how important music is these days.
