where did the dollar go?

Question

three men rent a hotel room cost $30.They put in $10 each and go to thier room.The desk clerk realizes they overpaid by $5 so he gives the busboy $5 to return to the men, the busboy dosent know how to distribute the money evenly so he pockets $2 and gives each man $1. Each man has now paid $9 each 3x9=27 plus the $2 the busboy has only equals $29,Where did the other dollar go?

ROOM COST = $25
CHANGE DISBURSED = $5 (EACH MAN GOT $1 AND BELLHOP GOT $2)
$25 +$5 = $30

Here is the trick

Now there are three phases in the problem.

first is the 25 for the hotel
Second is the 3 dollars that the men get back and
Finally the 2 dollars of the busboy

Here till the star there is 25 dollars to indicate the hotel fee.Then come the 5 dollars.

This five dollars can be split into two ways

Here, before the '/ ' sign there are two dollars which signify the busboy's pay and the next three are the returns for the men.

See ,no extra dollar.

Now , the extra dollar is seen when it is split as it is shown.

Its just different perspective.

There is no extra dollar.

Of the $30, $25 went to the hotel, $2 to the busboy, and the men kept $3. So every dollar is accounted for.

You don't add the $2 on to $27 (because the $2 is part of the $27). You would have to add the $3 on to the $27 to get $30.
