If there's any truth to this, it's probably because once your bladder gets stretched out from holding it the first time, there's a bit of a "rebound effect" where your bladder muscles are strained and so you start to feel the need to go with less urine. Actually, the longer you hold it the first time, the worse this effect will probably be. So, no, I don't think there's any benefit to holding it initially, in terms of how many times you will end up having to go later.

Still, as others have said, it's a moot question because if you drink excessively, you WILL have to pee, period... unless you hold it so long that your rupture your bladder, which obviously is much worse than any of the other alternatives!

If you're consuming a large amount of liquid, you're going to have to pee. Period. There's no point in trying to hold it to avoid "breaking the seal." It only seems like once you start you can't stop because you're continuing to consume large amounts of liquid (and diuretic liquid, no less.) Pee when you need to. Holding it will only cause you grief and potentially lead to problems.

Im a believer in this... I wont wait till its uncomfortable but I will hold off as long as I can. Once you break the seal it seems you need to piss twice as often.

You have to go when you feel the urge because holding it in causes cystitis (a painful burning sensation) that will lead to bladder & possible kidney infection. Urine is full of toxins that your kidneys need to get rid of, that's why you need to pee!

Its bunch of BS about breaking the seal. The only seal you gonna break is your bladder seal by holding too long.
