The season of weekly lawn mowing is coming to a close and I am very glad about it because I hate cutting grass (my pet peeve of home ownership). I just wondered what it was like for a homeowner in Southern California where the growing season never seems to end.

I think in California, the limiting factor on grass growth and cutting is not the warm, but the wet! Many of the areas are reclaimed desert or other dry lands, where you actually have to irrigate the lawn to make it grow. So, if you water it or it rains, yes, you will have to cut it. But they do have cooler days & nights in many parts of California, as well as dry seasons, which would stunt the grass growth. In fact, then, wildfire becomes a major issue!

Hope this answers your question.

I live in northern California and I mow year round. It's only required about half as much in the winter, though. It's not all that bad because the houses are so close together and the lots are very small.

Im a home owner and ilve in San Diego. You cut the grass year round. It grows slightly slower in the winder but is still the same routine. So don't complain you got it easy as far as lawn maintenance goes.

You think Cali is bad? Try Hawaii, I had to cut twice last week, but at least we don't have to shovel snow.
