I have a 99 Pontiac Grand Am SE.. The other day i went to take my kids to school and went to turn the car and it sounded like it was going to start but never would completly turn over. And the security light was flashing.. After about 20 times of turning it off and on it finally started.. Does anyone have any idea what might have cause it to do that.. This was the 2nd time it had done it.

Check with a dealer about the security light, something could be messed up there, but it sounds to me like a bad fuel pump or filter.

No doubt the other responses were quite helpful.

Frankly, this is probably a problem a technician will have to duplicate to fix. Not being a GM person, I have no expertise on this vehicle. However, assuming the engine would not start because the starter was turning the engine over too slowly, you have two broad possibilities. One is that the starter is bad. Since the car did finally start, this is less likely. Two is that the starting voltage is too low. This could be caused by something as simple as a low battery or something more complex such as high resistance somewhere in the starting circuit. This circuit is all the wires and connections running between the battery, the starter and others including the ignition switch.

Since I have never been a believer in coincidence, and assuming the security light ordinarily does not flash upon starting, the two may be related. As you know, auto security systems often disable the starter, so that could be the cause or a contributor to your problem. Also the security light may flash due to another condition such as low battery.

Best wishes!

It could be your battery, were the door shut all the way, if not then it could have left a light on and drained the battery, also signaling the security light to flash.
