Rawlings simply hides the ends of the thread inside the cover. As far as being tied off, the last stitch isn't. They do however run the balls through a roller to compress them and provide a uniform size. The compression keeps the stitches in place.

They don't, the baseball is formed in a black hole with an endless stitch going around it that has no beginning or end... Why do you think people watch baseball, because, it's fun and interesting? No! because of the ball's gravitational pull!

They have this great big huge circle thingie that goes round and round and round and then they put all the stuff into this thing and push a few buttons.
