this has completely baffled me, my cousin just rang up and asked for help with her science homework and she said her teacher said it began with "s". any one know? or is this teacher just crap?!

when a solids spontaneously turns into a gas, this is called sublimination. however, it can also be done in two stages. the first is melting, liquid to solid, and evaporation, liquid to gas. hope this helps.
