Lot offered his daughters to a horny mob so they could be gang-raped; later in the story he got so drunk that one of his daughters slept with him; he wasn't too drunk to impregnate her, though.... then the very next night the same thing happened with the other daughter. What lessons are we to take from this holy man?

On a long enough timeline, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero.

That he respected the men of God so much (who were actually angels), that to keep the mob from gang raping the men before him, he gave up his own daughters. The men came to warn him of the cities demise and to leave. I believe he knew he was a sinner then, unlike the rest of the town. That is why God chose him. But, I think God let him live to tell the story of what happened. Otherwise, the word sodomy would'nt exist, because if Lot and his family did'nt live, then no one would have even known of the place known as Sodom and Gemmorah.

That the same story is being repeated right now in 2006 We are at the point in the story where the two angels have delivered their message to Lot and have blinded the entire population of Sodom.

Unlike the original story; the current family of Lot was given the option to return to the tents of Abraham. Some of his family accepted and some refused. Those who refused will not be pulled out of Sodom this time.

The two messengers will now depart. Then begins the end of Sodom and Gomorrah which was prophesied in the Genesis event.

If you would learn something; know that the messengers will depart shortly and close together.

That his life ended up in a very bad ending. He lost his wife, the city he loved and ended up as an old man becoming a father once again with all of the responsibilities. From what it sounds like, Lot's end of his life was pretty miserable.

So what we can learn from the story of Lot.
Don't choose the most glamorous place in your time period to live, you probably won't be that happy.
Don't get drunk, because you don't know who you will end up sleeping with
Don't let your wife look back at her previous life
Don't mess around with your kids!

In Lot's story, one thing we could learn is that No matter how evil or bad our environment or workplace gets (just like the Sodom & Gomorrah) Just stand up on what is right in the sight of God and don't be influenced and never compromise your Godly principles to the ungodly people around you. Just pray and have mercy on them, for you are the only hope of that place. and in God's time He will come to bless and save you.

As for Lot's wife, never think twice nor be double-minded in obeying God's Word, Surely, His Words will always be for our best. For, if we will doubt God and go back to our past evil ways, we'll definitely be destroyed and turn lifeless as a pillar of salt.

God bless us :)

1. That nothing is as important as a message from God

2. That Christians are human and have faults and God will love us anyway

3. And that if he was the best of Sodom, guess how bad the rest was

** and in the end, Christians can get thier morals lowered by living in and around immoral sinful people every day.
and that is why it is so important on keeping the moral values and family values in American strong.

You should learn not to mess with God's angels. And you should learn that if you taste alcohol in a drink you should abstain from drinking it all. And I learned that it is possible to get a man aroused while he is dead asleep and drunk, which gives ugly girls a slight advantage. And it goes to prove men get horny when the wind blows...

I love fr_chuck's answer.

Here are my thoughts.
God loves you and even the worst people you could possibly think of, just as much as He loves Jesus, His only Son.
If He didn't He wouldn't have sent Him to earth to take your place to pay for every wrong thought or action you or they have ever done or will ever do.
All that has to be done is ask God for forgiveness, and accept that Jesus has come to pay the price for your freedom from condemnation. That He has paid the penalty. Then a person is free.

You are missing the point. Lot was a victim in this case. It was his daughters that did wrong. Anyway, if you continue reading in the story you will discover that the children that resulted from this occurance were less than normal. I think one even ended up dying.
