Do you need a special CD drive to burn DVD's or is it just the software, I thought of buying the software and the thought maybe you need a special drive. Can anyone help me with this?

Look in front of your CD driver on your tower. Then on the front is should read DVD +RW which means you have a DVD burner. There is a special little lens that will burn DVDs so if you do not have the hardware, then no software will allow you to burn DVDs. You need to make sure you have a DVD burner or DVD R+W.
If it only says CD R+W or CD ROM or DVD-ROM, then you do not have the burner.

If you want to burn DVD's you need to first make sure you have a DVD burning capable drive. One easy way is to look at the front plate of the drive in your computer. If it says anything like; DVD recorder or DVD-R then you are set. If not you will need to go buy one. The software will almost always be included with the drive. If not,
CD Burner XP Pro is great software and free.

You need a burner drive! You cant burn cds or dvds on a regular drive! When you are ready to purchase one, keep in mind, find one that supports all file types!

A CD drive will not burn a DVD...they are 2 completely different formats. You will need a DVD Burner to burn a DVD...check out TigerDirect, they have great prices.

its hardware and software,cause the speed of dvd writer and its burner lens are differ than cd writer speed and burner lens,dvd writer can write on both but cd writer can't
