When the other team does not score.

Its where one team keeps another team from scoring for the entire game. Think about it this way: when a team doesn't score, their offense gets shut out, and since even the D-men( and sometimes the goalie ie. Brodeur, Turco, Hedburg) are involved with the offense, that means that the whole team got shut out. Thus explaining what it means when you hear: Pittsburgh got shut out by the Detroit dead things... oops I mean red wings. The final score was 2-0....lol.

>>>>>>>>>>>>John D, I was just wondering, what in the world makes you think Dallas and Philadelphia will be in the finals together? Don't get me wrong, I entertain the thought of Dallas or Philadelphia in the finals, as they are my favorite teams( I like Dallas more than Philly though by just a little bit.) However, Its way too early to make those kinds of predictions, at this point in the regular season.

Also, when a team wins a playoffs series, it is called a series sweep, not a shut out. Well, I hope that tells you more than just what a shut out is, thanks for the question.

When a team performs a shut out, or has a shut out game againist another team, it means they beat them badly, real bad.

A shut out means that team won while the other scored no points at all.

Like the 49er game 2 or 3 weeks ago, they lost badly, they "got" shut out. They lost like 0 to 43 it was ugly. The team that beat them "had" a shut out game, other words they beat their asses.

A shut out is when a goalie stops ALL shots on net. Thus no goals are scored against him. For example, The Edmonton Oilers are playing the Calgary Flames...the final score is oilers 5 and calgary 0...the edmonton goalie got a shut out as calgary did not score on him at all!!!Hope this helps...GO OILERS GO!!!

A shut out is when the goalie saves all the shots on goal - therefore the other team never scored. Ahh, this brings back my days as a goalie...
