I am thinking about getting a job at Borders Books and music, I was wondering if they have a good history of paying their employees well. Anyone who has worked there, or know someone who has worked there,...what is their pay rate? (I live in NY, so it will probably be different than someone in CA!) Just Curious.., any opinions, etc.... ??? Thanks!

I worked at Borders for 7 years. Although I loved the job (obviously) Borders is still a retail store, meaning that they do not pay their employees much. A lot of people think working in a bookstore is glamorous or intellectual however they are always surprised by the pay scale. I love Borders. I loved the benefits. Free promo Cd's, check out books like a library, discounts, health insurance, other fun people, and good work environment. If you love books, Cd's or movies then it is a great job. However, if you want to be paid competitive wages it definitely falls short on that account. I would have stayed but I live in Boston and with everything twice as expensive as anywhere else, I just can't make ends meat working for Borders. I love em', I miss 'em, and I would work for them again if I wasn't under such financial constraints.

Retail rarely pays well. But they are better than places like Walmart. Also if you like books/CDs/DVDs, the discount will be very useful.

Hefty employee discount. Nice clean, pleasant work environment.

Give it a spin.
