My boyfriend drinks almost everyday after work at least two or three beers I have told him time and time again that this can become habit forming and eventually lead to a problem. I don't want to fight with him or make him feel like I'm trying to tell him what to or act like his mother but I don't want it to lead to alcoholism and I want him to see that this can be a problem in the future if he continues. I've already told him numerous amounts of times that I won't be second to alcohol, and I don't want to date a drunk. Any advice on how to handle this situation without causinf a fight and me being able to get through to him and him see would be greatly appreciated.

Let him be hisself. You can't control any habits he had before coming into the relationship. Isn't there something you enjoy that he may look at as a problem/addiction? You can't control anyone except yourself, if you try to tell him what to do, you'll run him off! Just accept him for who he is, or leave. You told him you don't want to date a drunk, so that's your choice. I understand your concern for him as a person, but if he doesn't care, you can't expect him to stop doing something he does in his spare time for his enjoyment.

I have dealt with a few drinkers in my life so I know how you feel. Basically talk to him about why he feels he needs to drink...dont yell at him about it. Some people just want to relax after work and have a drink or two. If he's getting drunk every night then thats a problem. But if he just needs to relax, maybe there are other ways you can help him relax...like sex hehe. Just talk to him. I get scared of the future also, but if he's young, hopefully he will grow out of it. Good luck.

Life is too short to spend it trying to fix someone else's problems, especially an addiction like alcoholism. Sorry to sound insensitive- but my first husband had that problem- it ran in his family. I have a wonderful and sweet son by him, but he has shown signs of addictive behavior. If you aren't in love with this boyfriend, then find one who doesn't have that problem. I can not emphasize this enough- It does not go away. Choose your struggles carefully.

He doesn't feel he is an alcoholic or on the way to being one so you can not convince him otherwise. You have to make the best decision for you. IF you feel its headed bad....leave, if you want to stay with him and sees what happens that is up to you as well.

You're worried about this turning INTO a problem?

You can't make people do anything. You keep talking about what YOU want, I want this and I want that...if he isn't what you want, then find someone who is what you want, or else just deal with it.

Just know that you don't control people or situations, it's just not possible, anything else is just suffering.

Break up with him because of it. If he loves you, he'll quit for you. If not, you're better off not having a drunk around.
