Becky Sharpe from Thackeray's "Vanity Fair" the last of the 18th century bitches, before the namby pamby victorian heroines took over. Becky always had her eye on the main chance, she was a terrible mother, a hypocrite and a cheat. She was a real human being, and although we are meant to like the stupid, mimsy and sentimental Amelia, we don't. Everybody likes Becky.

Alex Cross from the James Patterson books. Fantastic choice to have Morgan Freeman portray him on screen, although Morgan is a little older than Alex seems to be in the books.

Elisabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejuidice - she is smart, more than a match for Darcy, but has faults. Otherwise Lucy Snow from Villette. I like her cold hard intelligence.
